Study of Biblical Holidays

In an effort to better understand the Old Testament I'd like to put together videos and information relating to Israel's Holy Days. I am not an expert and am learning as I go. I'd like my children to learn how God instituted the Holy days as a foreshadowing of Jesus and His plan for the church.

The Arch of Titus (Arco di Tito) is the oldest triumphal arches in Rome Italy.  Dating back to around 81 AD, this victory arch was built by Emperor Dominitian to commemorate the suppression of a Jewish revolt in Palestine.  The artwork under the archway depicts the victorious Roman legionnaires enjoying the spoils of their victory. Some 50,000 Jews were brought back to Rome as slaves and were used to helped build this arch.

History - Creation to the Greeks-My Father's World curriculum

We are trying to cover history at a slower pace than Abeka. I ordered the My Father's World curriculum to use in an effort to pull out more detail since my girls see history as just a list of names and dates to be memorized and forgotten. I wanted to put together a page of video links to show the "real life" of history. It is slow go for me so I hope my children will be patient and enjoy the journey of learning together.

(At the time I made this page my children were 12 and 9. I still come back to it often as a refresher and decided to leave it up. Maybe it can be of use to others, too.)

(link to scripture stories in chronological order)(Old & New Testament, also has 2 pages on Mormons)

Videos for my girls

My girls are in 4th and 7th grade and want to use ABeka science. In an attempt to make it more interesting I am trying to find and post videos that relate to the chapters they choose to study. To make their tests less stressful I ordered the test packets from Christian Liberty Press and will make it a point to post videos relating to what is covered on the tests. I'll also post anything else I find interesting on other material in the chapter. I hope my kids enjoy!

In our study of history we have always used Abeka. This worked well for elementary but as we began 7th grade, covering all of history in one year seemed overwhelming. I ordered My Father's World for history and we've gone really slow aiming to put fun back into the study of history. I want my girls to always be aware of God's hand throughout history. I want them to be excited by it.

Somehow along the way science and history have become the least favorite subjects of my children. I hope this will change. I can not teach them everything about science and history but I hope to give them a love for learning it on thier own. I pray this love for learning about  the things of God lasts their whole life through.
